Over at the CoD:Hub, the winners for the Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior competition have been named. Now, how legit these kills were is not verified. The top player had 2130 kills in 12 hours. That is 177.5 kills an hour or 2.95 kills a minute. Not saying it's impossible to keep up that kill rate for 12 hours straight, but some gamers think there may have been some 'boosting' going on i.e. other players just letting this person kill them over and over. However, he could have been on a packed server with noobs for 12 hours also. I imagine with a competition like this, many people were out there playing. Read below for all of the results:
The Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior tournament was a huge success – thousands competed for prizes, and we’re happy to announce the winners:

Well, the Weekend Warrior competition went off without a hitch for the Xbox 360 this last weekend, but it did not happen for the PS3. Do not worry PS3 fans, your chance is coming this weekend. Read below:
Listen up troops. If you think you have what it takes to compete with the best PS3 soldiers on the battlefield, then we have some news for you. Friday, July 3 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST, Saturday, July 4 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST and Sunday, July 5 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST continues the inaugural Call of Duty: WaW Weekend Warrior competition, in which participating soldiers battle for top ranking in the PS3 leaderboards. Soldiers with the highest combined kills from these timeframes will earn top prizes for their courageous efforts.

To compete in the Weekend Warrior competition, all recruits must follow these simple orders.

How to Enlist
1. If you haven’t already done so, the first necessary step is to register at the Call of Duty: HQ. New to the site? Then you should check out the Tour of the Site post in the Intel section for a guided tour of all the site’s features.
2. After enlisting, all soldiers must link their accounts to their online gamer profiles. For detailed instructions on how to do this, visit our detailed Dossier post to learn everything you need to know about this amazing feature. Without linking your account prior to engagement, our troops back home managing logistics won’t be able to accurately track your stats.
3. Lastly, once your account is ready, head over to the Missions tab at www.codwaw.com to register for the Weekend Warrior Competition. The deadline for registrations is Thursday, July 2nd at 3pm PST. Keep in mind that accepting the mission only registers you for that specific Weekend Warrior competition. To enlist in future competitions, you will have to register once more at the Missions page.

The competition periods are Friday, July 3 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST, Saturday, July 4 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST and Sunday, July 5 at 12:00pm – 06:00pm PST. After the competition is over, kill counts are combined from these time frames back at HQ to determine which players reigned supreme. All matches MUST be completed before the deadline in order for them to count. Scores are counted separately for games taking place on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, and top players from each console are awarded prizes. All players are encouraged to start practicing right away!

Gamasutra has posted up a new article recently that deals with a survey conducted by tracking firm OTX. They believe that Activision and Infinity Ward are actually hurting themselves by removing the "Call of Duty" name in the upcoming game Modern Warfare 2. Take a look:
Activision and Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 not only dropped the the Call of Duty moniker, but a sizable chunk of brand recognition, tracking firm OTX tells Gamasutra.

Consumer awareness levels for the highly-anticipated military mega-sequel dropped 20 percentage points since Activision revealed the official name of the game would ditch the Call of Duty brand, according to Nick Williams, who runs the GamePlan Insights division for OTX.

"Up until the beginning of May, OTX had been tracking the title as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. More specifically, we asked a representative group of gamers in the U.S. whether or not they had heard of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. At that time, approximately 40 percent of all gamers in the U.S. claimed that they had heard of this title."

He continued, "However, once it became clear that Activision was positioning the title as Modern Warfare 2, OTX removed 'Call of Duty' from the consumer survey, and the awareness levels dropped to 20 percent. In other words, the Call of Duty brand association essentially doubles the awareness for the game. That is quite a remarkable statistic."

The Call of Duty Hub has been updated today with some weapon tips for the Wunderwaffe DG-2. Take a look:
As the latest addition to the Zombie fighting arsenal, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 packs the biggest punch seen thus far. The weapon can help your team survive through the later rounds of Shi No Numa, but only when placed in the right hands. This gun is absolutely not for the light of heart or the lone wolf beginners. To make sure that you don't become the whipping boy of your team, here are some tips to make sure that you are prepared for it when the hefty responsibility of the Wunderwaffe lands in your hands.

Tips for the Wunderwaffe DG-2
• Let your teammates know that you are packing the Wunderwaffe. Strategies should be reworked around the gun to keep the team safe and to make sure that the one wielding the Wunderwaffe is kept alive.
• The Wunderwaffe is a great weapon to use while on the move. Play cat and mouse with the zombies and once they are all chasing you, run backwards and shoot the zombies that trail you. Their formation will turn into a conga line of death as the electricity jumps from one zombie to another.
• The Wunderwaffe's main weakness is its slow rate of fire. In battle, only one player, two max, should be using the weapon while fighting the undead. The gun is powerful, but tough to use when things get hectic, so it is always preferable to have two or more supporting players wielding HMGs or assault rifles.
• Keep a constant eye on your ammo supplies. The Wunderwaffe doesn't carry that much ammo when compared to other guns. Be prepared to swap to another heavy firearm once the gun's charge runs out.
• As soon as you get the Wunderwaffe, let your teammates know that you have it. Everyone needs to work together in order to utilize this weapon to the fullest. If your soldiers don't have your back, then you will quickly die while wielding this behemoth. And yes, this tip is important enough to state twice!
Now that you know the tricks of the weapon, go out and kill some zombies!

BASHandSLASH has a new bashcast up this week. It has been a little while since Jock Yitch's last cast, but Bash 109 is definitely a topic that Jock has been talking about for quite some time, CoD TV. For those who know nothing of CoD TV, this bashcast would be a good place to start as it was announced recently here that support for CoD TV will be in the upcoming 1.5 patch for CoD:WaW. Read a bit below about the bashcast:

Euphoria.

Activision has finally recognized PC gamer requests that CoD TV is a “must have” requirement for the continued viability of the Call of Duty franchise into the future.

Do they really see it that way? Well…that’s my optimistic take on it. For all I know, Treyarch and Activision may not look upon this modification in the dramatic light I do. But right now, I don’t care. The CoDTV code-hook appears to be in the upcoming v1.5 revision of CoD:WW and that’s all that matters.

On this edition of BASH (…yes, we’re doing these casts somewhat infrequently now), I interviewed Garetjax - the heart and the brains behind CoD TV - literally minutes after CoDTV support was announced.

Listen to the cast to find out his immediate reactions to what should be a dramatic turn for CoD competitive gaming. It’s a new day in CoD.
Click here to listen to the bashcast. Subscribe to these bashcasts, or at least continue to listen to them each week if you would really like to start knowing more about CoD and its community.

As for the topic of CoD TV, what do you think? I know some competitive gamers have already given up on CoD:WaW for competition, but maybe having CoD TV in MW2 or in CoD7, would that change your opinion of competitive play for future CoD games?
